Guest blog: Mandy Hairstylist

Mandy hairstylist
When one of the ladies from CG Proefjes came to visit me in my hair salon for a Curl Experience, we talked about different cutting techniques. We found out that we often hear that curlies find it difficult to determine which cutting technique gives the right results for their hair. Time for a blog we thought!
With this blog I will take you through the different cutting techniques, of which I apply quite a few in my hair salon. And based on that we determine which technique suits your hair type and wishes, in addition we provide the entire treatment cg approved, we of course go through all your hair properties and adjust the care accordingly.

Global curl/devacut inspired

Unlike most haircuts – where your hair is washed first and then cut ‘wet’ – this technique cuts your hair while it is dry (or with very little hair product in your hair). In other words, to perform this technique, your hair must be dry and in its original state, so that your natural curl pattern is still visible. This way, the hairstylist sees your curls in their natural state. Then, all of your curls are cut strand by strand, which is a good curl cutting technique for short hair with a strong curl.
The goal of this technique in dry hair is to give your hair more shape and a natural look. But we all know that every curl is different and falls differently. With these techniques, your hair is cut dry and per curl, so that it falls beautifully as a whole.

Controlled Chaos CC Method (“my favorite!”)

Alanna York's Controlled Chaos technique is really great if you (like me) want to wear your hair curly but also want to straighten or blow-dry your hair.
The cc technique is very nice because you cut it wet and let the haircut flow over so that the lengths are the same everywhere. It is cut in a C so that your layers on top are a bit longer and the layers underneath are a bit shorter (which give more volume because they curl up more and give firmness) and flow out to the longer lengths. You can also tie the hair up nicely and/or blow-dry it without it having all different lengths in it.
The hair is cut wet. After the entire hair is cut using this method, it is blow-dried and then adjusted if necessary. The biggest difference is that the hair with this technique "blends" more or flows into each other. For example, with the Devacut technique, there can be quite a difference in length in the different curls.

Curlsys

Please note: Curlsys is a method that is not used by Mandy Haarstyliste.

Curlsy's is a cutting technique where the curls are not cut straight, but in a C shape. This makes curls fall more naturally in bundles and creates airiness. If you have very thick hair, this can be very pleasant. In addition, it may even be suitable for straight and/or very fine hair and for hairstyles with striking crowns. This is also one of the reasons that Curlsys is often cut at wavies.

Inside technology

This technique can be cut in both dry and wet hair, the hair is cut in multiple C shapes according to the shape of the hairstyle and taken in coarse sections for a natural curl formation. This technique can be used in short and long hair. However, the intention is that with this technique the hair can only be styled/worn in curls because there can be a lot of length differences.

Last but not least: Rëzocut!

The Rëzocut was invented by Nubia Suarez. With a Rëzocut, the hair is cut dry in rose-shaped bundles, it is cut with special c-shaped scissors and many layers are created, which creates volume.

What is a Rëzocut and how is it different from a Devacut?

The Rëzocut is Nubia's own cutting technique that she has been using for years and teaching to hair stylists from all over the world!
This special cutting technique is suitable for any hair texture.
“The most noticeable difference between a Devacut and a Rëzocut is that the Devacut focuses on layers around your face, while the Rëzocut maintains an even length all the way around your head,” Suarez says. It’s a technique that creates a lot of air, allowing your curls to move freely.
The Rëzocut is also perfect for curlies who love their length, as it creates a shape while maintaining both length and volume.
As you can read, enough variation! We also find it very nice in our hair salon to combine multiple techniques to achieve a perfect end result that is completely personalized to your curl type, hair wishes and expectations.
