Products & Routine

What do the products do and when do I apply them in the routine?
These are questions that mainly arise for those who are starting with the CG Method!
Not so strange of course, because you will be confronted with a lot of information in the beginning!
That's why I made a piece with the types of products and when to use them in the routine!

Final Wash

A final wash is a shampoo WITH Sulfates but WITHOUT silicones.
It cleanses your hair well and after that you can start the CG Method!
You can also use this again if you have used products containing silicone, dyed your hair or to remove build-up.

CG Shampoo

A CG Shampoo takes care of the cleaning. You wash all the products and dirt out of your hair with it.

Co-wash

A cowash is actually somewhere between a shampoo and a conditioner.
You clean your hair with it. This is only done a little milder than a shampoo, but a little more than a conditioner.

Conditioner

A conditioner helps to detangle your hair and nourishes your hair. It is easiest to comb/brush your hair when the conditioner is in your hair.

Deepco / Mask

A mask/Deepco nourishes your hair deep inside, more than a Conditioner. You leave it on (usually about 30 minutes) and rinse it out thoroughly afterwards.

TIP: Try a heat cap! The heat will open your hair scales, allowing the mask to nourish even better! Definitely recommended for low porosity!

Leave-in

You use a leave-in after washing. You don't rinse it out. This also takes care of your hair!

For someone with waves, it can sometimes be that your hair prefers it without Leave-in. You could try that!

Hair milk / Curl cream

This also nourishes your hair and you do not rinse it out. It can be a bit heavier than a leave-in. You can combine it with a leave-in or use it instead of the leave-in. If the Hair Milk/Curl Cream is too heavy, you can dilute it with water before applying it to your hair!

Gel / Custard / Mousse

Use the Gel, Custard and/or Mousse after the leave-in, last.

This ensures that your curls stay in place better and have a good hold.
Often your hair is hard after drying your hair with gel, custard and/or mousse.
You can squeeze/scrunch this out with your hands, possibly with a drop of oil or with a microfiber towel.

Oil

There are many different oils with different effects.

There are oils that have a hydrating effect, which are nice to mix a few drops through the mask/deepco before applying it. You could also apply it to your hair beforehand and then apply the mask over it. You can also leave the oil in for a few hours!
(rinse thoroughly afterwards. Possibly with some shampoo)

There are also certain oils that are good for your scalp and oils that seal your hair.
You seal it to keep the moisture in your hair.

And you can also use oil to knead out the hard part of the gel!

When starting with the CG Method, this is the routine for the first wash (CURLS):

- Final wash
- Deepco/mask
- Conditioner (usually not necessary after a mask, but you can use it if you prefer)
- Leave-in (and possibly Hairmilk/Curl Cream)
- Gel/custard/mousse

You can decide for yourself whether you want to use an oil or not.

Second wash and after that (CURLS):

- Shampoo or Cowash
- Conditioner (if you use a Cowash it is usually not necessary to use a conditioner)
- Leave-in (and possibly Hairmilk/Curl Cream)
- Gel/custard/mousse
NOTE : A mask/deepco is usually used weekly. It just depends on how often you wash your hair and when you add it to your routine. Then it comes between the shampoo and conditioner.

When you start with the CG Method, this is your routine for the first wash (STRAIGHT HAIR):

- Final wash
- Deepco/mask
- Conditioner (usually not necessary after a mask, but you can use it if you prefer)
- Leave-in or Hair Milk

Second wash and subsequent washes (STRAIGHT HAIR) :

- Shampoo or Cowash
- Conditioner (if you use a cowash it is usually not necessary to use a conditioner)
- Leave-in or Hair milk
NOTE : A mask/deepco is usually used weekly or once every 2 weeks. It just depends on how often you wash your hair and when you add it to your routine. It then comes between the shampoo and conditioner. With straight hair it is not necessary to use a gel.
