Glossary within the CG Method
Especially if you are just starting with the CG (curly girl) Method you will come across words/terms that make you think: What is this? That is why we have created a CG glossary to help you on your way!
CG - Terms / Glossary
A:
Alcohol - The alcohol that is not allowed within the cg method is used in products as a cleanser. This dries out your scalp and hair. In addition, there are also alcohols that are allowed within the method, these are fatty alcohols. These ensure that the oil can be distributed well through your hair. Read more about it here.
AVC Rinse - A rinse with apple cider vinegar.

Build-up - Product accumulation. A build-up of products on your hair. Read more about it here.
Bundle - Hair that is bundled together to form a curl. Also called a clump.
C:
Cast - The hard layer left on your hair from the gel.
CG Method - Curly Girl Method.
Coily - Is a hair type, a compact curl.
Curly - Is a type of hair, twisting curl.
Custard - A styling product that often hydrates your hair more than a gel.
Cream - A styling product that hydrates your hair.
Conditioner - Also known as cream rinse. Use this after washing. Provides hydration, nourishment and often detangles your hair well.
Co-wash - A kind of conditioner with which you wash your hair. This co-wash (conditioner-wash) contains a mild cleanser. So it is not an ordinary conditioner.
D:
Deepco - A deepco is the same as a deep conditioner or hair mask. You use this to nourish your hair.
Deep conditioner - A deep conditioner is the same as a deepco or hair mask. You use this to nourish your hair.
Density - The thickness of the hair.
Density - Hair quantity.
diffuser - A cap, usually round, that you can put on your hair dryer. This reduces frizz and provides better curl.
Dirty Deepco - A hair mask that you use before washing your hair. This can be done on dry hair or wet hair.
Denman - Is a brand of hair brushes to detangle or style your hair.
DIY - Stands for Do It Yourself. This means that you make products for your hair yourself.

Elasticity - The amount of stretch there is in your hair.

Frizz - Fluffy hair
G:
Gel - A styling product.
H:
Hair Properties - The condition of your hair/curls.
Hold - The amount of support a styling product provides.
K:
Curl Type - The shape of a curl/type of curl. For example: Wavy, Curly, or Coily.
L:
Leave-in - Is the same as a leave-in conditioner. You use this after washing/conditioning and do not rinse it out.
M:
Mask - A mask is the same as a deepco or deepcponditioner. You use this to nourish your hair.
Mineral Oils - This ingredient is avoided within the CG Method because it forms a layer around your hair that prevents your hair from breathing.
Mousse - This is a styling product.
O:
Overload - An excess of.
P:
Porosity - The porosity of your hair. The more porous, the more damaged your hair is.
Prayinghands - This is a styling technique. Here you have rubbed product between your hands and apply it to your hair by sliding your hands together and your hair between them from top to bottom.
Pre-Poo - This is what you do before you wash your hair with shampoo, also known as; pre-shampoo. You apply oil to your scalp to nourish your scalp. You let this soak in and then you wash your hair well with shampoo.
Pineapple - A pineapple is when you tie your hair up in a loose bun on top of your head. This is done to keep your curls from flattening overnight and to reduce frizz.
Plopping - Plopping is when you fold a cloth or shirt around your head after applying your styling products. This is a way of drying your hair.
R:
Refresh - Updating your curls. Often you do this in the morning after sleeping to refresh your curls.
S:
Scrunching - A way of styling. You make a bowl with your hands, put the ends of your hair in it. Then you go with your hand closer to your scalp in a squeezing motion.
Sealing - Applying a layer to your hair. Often this is done with an oil.
SOTC - means scrunch out the cast/crunch. This means; squeezing out the hardened gel in your hair so that soft curls remain.
Shampoo - A shampoo is a cleanser that we use to wash our hair clean.
Slip - You have slip when your hair feels smooth/slippery after applying a leave-in or conditioner. You can then detangle your hair well.

Wavy - A hair type. This is a wavy hair type.
