Fluff

Happy woman with dark beautiful curls in her hair

Do you ever look in the mirror and feel annoyed by a fluffy guinea pig haircut on your head?
Who knows, maybe this blog can help you on your way!
Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair, so we curlies are often 1-0 behind against team frizz.

Humidity

If you have dry hair, the top layer of your hair is rough.
When the humidity is high, your hair absorbs that moisture and swells, causing frizz.

Chemicals

In addition, chemicals are a cause of frizzy hair.
Do you use hair dye or have you bleached your hair?
Then it could be that your hair cuticles are damaged and open (high porosity). This causes frizz.

Glycerin

And then we have the Glycerine.

To keep it short:
Glycerin is a humectant. It can pull moisture out of your hair in dry weather and into your hair in wet weather. This can cause frizz.

Glycerin also has its benefits:
  • It stimulates hair growth
  • It prevents split ends
  • So it can also retain moisture well and keep your hair hydrated
So you really should test if this works for you positively or negatively. Of course the weather also has an effect on what it does for your hair!
Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet to completely banish frizz, but with these tips you can definitely reduce frizz:

Moisture

Moisture, moisture moisture: that is what your hair needs when it curls. For example, use a good hydrating deepco (mask), possibly supplemented with a hydrating leave in. This way you add more moisture to your hair, which means it will absorb less moisture from the outside air and therefore frizz less.

Oil

You can use oil in two ways to ensure that your hair retains more moisture. You can apply the oil to your hair before showering. This is also called a pre-poo . The oil ensures that your hair absorbs moisture and that the hair cuticles eventually close.
You can also use the oil at the end of your routine, for example to scrunch out the cast. This way you seal your hair, so to speak, which closes the hair cuticles and makes them less susceptible to frizz.
Tip : Water-based lubricant works the same!
Products like Pretty Curly Girl Bye Bye Frizz and Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz also help to combat frizz!

Another tip : You can also put some oil in your hair ends before your mask and let it work. You can also mix a few drops of oil through your mask!

Protect your hair

Frizz can already occur during sleep. It is therefore advised to sleep on a satin pillowcase or to use a satin bonnet when you are going to enjoy your night's rest. Satin is generally less rough on your hair, which causes less friction and you wake up with less frizz.
Please note ! Satin is the way of weaving. Cotton satin will therefore be rougher than, for example, silk satin. See for yourself what you like.
Also, don't be too hard on yourself and your hair! Sometimes frizz also gives a bit more volume!
